I was interested at people's sequence movement last week, and I started research for skateboarding as a start point.
When I was watching some videos about skateboarding, I found that the camera has to keep changing the shooting position to catch the skater's movement. It makes me feel vibration as a static watcher. So I go back to the site again to shoot videos to understand the vibration of different movement created. My idea is to shoot the film from the movement itself to see the vibration. I asked some skater's to tight the camera on their body then they playing but it was very dangers with the camera. So I change another way to explore the difference between movements.
Then I shooting the video without the image, try to identify variety movements and the vibration it created through sounds. I listen to one movement at one time while I'm listening the video, and draw the vibration on my understanding of the movement.
So the first one is about the vibration of skating, the straight flat line represent the sliding movement and this shows the vibration I heard. Like the skateboard goes up and down. These graphics here because of other skating sounds appears in the video, they happened in this period of time. And I combined them together like this to show variety vibrations.
The second drawing I did I used the some technique to represent the vibration of BMXS. This patterns shows the sound I heard when the bicycle moving and then I draw this to represent the silence part of this movement and then I heard a sound like heavy beat on the floor I guess it did a jumping action, the straight line means the moving without the bicycle sound with I represent with the pattern.
This is also the combination of different BMXS vibration happened at same time.
People's walking steps, I draw one dot when I hear one step and the size of the dot means different step weight, the big dot is heavy step and the small one is light step. And these gaps between steps represent the disappear step sound. The length of each gap means the different disappear time. I think this is the vibration of human walking movement. And I used different colors to represent different people's steps I heard but happened at same period.
Same as running.
This single mapping is the single skateboarding vibration from this video. It is quite in the first 3 second, and the skateboard beat the ground for four times. Then it start to sliding, because of the ground materials, sound sounds very vibration. It keep this action for few second, then the vibrative sound stop for a sound, started again, then stop again, then stop again, then move again, then there is almost 2 second empty sound. So before I watched the video I imaged the movement through the sound vibration. The skateboard is slide on the ground and then do a stop position then slide again and then stop again, then move and going up do a jump action and go down. I can hear the last one is different with two stops before because of the weight it arrived the floor is quite heavy.
So actually I think people can feel the vibration to identify variety movements with the imagination through the sound.
I also interested in visual vibration of different movement create. I think I will focus on the visual movement next week and continue explore sound vibration of movements.
I put them together to compare. I found the vibration of walking and running is averagely and for the skating and bicycling is drastic and in big range.
